EOTC Recount Blog

Today we are doing a reflection on out EOTC days. We have to write a paragraph for each place we went to explaining our favourite parts and other information. Here is my work. Peace :)

Adrenaline Forest:

Going to adrenaline forest was really fun because it was something I had never done before. My favourite part was actually learning how to use the clickers that hooked onto the wires so you didn't fall off. My least favourite part was that I was up really high when I was climbing but that was the only thing I didn't enjoy. I got to have a good view of Spencer park over the road. But I learned that you should face your fears and step out of your comfort zone.

City Trip:

Going through the city was really interesting because I got to go to places I have gone before but I got a better look at them. My favourite part was going to Margret Mahy playground because I don't go there that often.

Jellie Park:

Sewing Terms 3 & 4

For the past term and a half I have been doing sewing as a options class. For the first part of it we were just having fun making small things and getting used to the machines, then we got given our main task for the year. Our main task was to make two bags of our choice for two different stake holders. The first stake holder was given to us by Miss Laycock which was Family Works Timaru, They are an organisation that gives to people in need. The second stake holder was our choice, I chose to make it for myself to use for Tennis. I made two drawstring bags that were 20x24. Here is the slideshow with all of my work. Enjoy :)

EOTC Week Activity Board

This week we have been working EOTC tasks. EOTC stands for End Of Term Camp. But this year we aren't having a camp but we are having three days out. The activities we will be doing are Going to Jellie Park, Adrenaline Forest and a City Tour. We had to do a activity for each place we are going to and also an extra for experts. Here are all my tasks. :)

Jellie Park:
For this task I chose to make a list of water safety things everyone needs to know before they go swimming. Here is my work :)

Adrenaline Forest:
For this task I chose to write about which activity we were looking forward to the most. Here is my writing :)

Which EOTC activity are you looking forward to the most?

I’m looking forward to doing the City Tour. I have been to most of the places we are going to but I think it will be nice to see what they look like now because it has been a while. But I'm also looking forward to the other activities too because I've never been to Adrenaline Forest mainly because I'm scared of heights but I'm looking forward to going to Jelly Park because I love swimming.

City Tour:
For this task I chose to colour in a picture from the Christchurch Art Gallery. This picture was a painting of flowers here is the real thing and my colouring :)

100 Word Challenge

Today in wananga we had to do another 100 word challenge. We had to write it about magic bubbles. Here is my story.

I was walking through the dark back streets of San Diego when I saw something shiny behind one of the dumpsters. I ran towards it but then it disappeared! Then I turned around and saw a giant bubble with bright green dots as if they were eyes. I tried to pop it but when I did my finger just bounced off. But when I tried to kick it my foot went straight through so I stepped inside and I started floating! Then I saw flashing words saying where would you like to go? I said I wanted to go anywhere and that’s where we went.

100 Word Challenge

Today in wananga we did another 100 word challenge. This one was different though because the photo was something that happened to one of the teachers but I made my own teacher. The photo was of Miss Laycocks car with human sized footprints on it! Here is the photo and my story. :)

It was a bright morning and all the birds were chirping. I was getting ready to go school but I was too lazy to walk so I asked mum to drive me. She asked me to start the car for her so I went to do that but then I saw something mysterious. There were giant footprints on the windshield! I didn’t really think anything about it until I heard rustling in the bushes beside me. I got so scared I sprinted  into the car and wiped the windshield so mum didn’t freak out like me. But then I saw my dad sneaking away..

Heroes & Villains 2ND Poster

Today in Hurumanu 6 we have been working on another task for heroes and villains. This time I chose to do it about Jacinda Ardern. We had to make another advert poster like you see on the streets before the election. To make this I used Poster My Wall again. Here is my poster. :)

Gymnastics

For the past few weeks in PE we have been doing gymnastics. We do this twice a week for an hour every Tuesday and Thursday. My favourite thing to do in gymnastics is to use the parallel  bars. Mr Palmer taught me easy tricks to do which I picked up pretty fast. Here is a photo of me using the parallel bars:

Today in Hurumanu 6 we have been working on another task for heroes and villains. This time we had to make a advert poster like you see on the streets before the election. To make this I used Poster My Wall. Here is my poster. :)

Heroes & Villains Timeline

Today in Hurumanu 6 we are learning about the political heroes and villains in this world. We will be working on this topic for the rest of the term. Our first task was to pick someone we wanted to learn about for this topic and I chose to learn about Aldof Hitler. The first task was to make a timeline about the person we chose. Here is my work :)

200 Word Challenge

Today in wananga we started a 200 word challenge. The picture was of a blue whale with its mouth wide open and a scuba diver swimming away from it. Here is the picture and my story.

I have loved the ocean ever since I was little. I would always beg my parents to let me go to the beach and clear my mind. I also loved all of the marine life so I liked going to the aquariums too. But when I was 15 my parents introduced me to scuba diving to I could get a view that I had never seen before so of course I said yes. The first time I did it I was so nervous I almost hyperventilated but I stayed strong and gave it a go. It was so fun touching all the coral and the little fish but then out of no where all the fish swam to the coral and hid so that it was like no one was there so I turned around and saw nothing until I heard a strange noise about a kilometre away. But I knew what it was after listening to the noises at the aquariums it was a blue whale! So I tried to swim back to the boat as fast as I could but the whale was catching up fast! But I was lucky enough to get pulled up by my dad. You would think I would be scared of the ocean by no but I actually go back there every day :)

YR9 Leadership

Last week we started a new ' Extra For Experts Kete ' which happens on Wednesdays P1 & P2. What happens is the year 9s are all together and the year 7&8s are separated into three groups until the year 7s have to go to kiwi kaha. Last week we learned a lot of information about different styles and what leadership actually is. We had started a DLO about the 5 different types of leadership which we had to put heaps of information on it. We also took a quiz to see how much of a leader we were and my score was 62 out of 100 which is a pretty good score :) Here is my DLO and my results.

Goal: My goal is to work on my skills because even though I got a high score there is still room for improvement.

Language Week

Today in wananga we have been working on the tasks for Niuean & Tokelau language week. We had to choose from 6 different tasks and I chose to make a DLO with phrase from both places. It was hard for me to find everything but eventually I did. Here is my work :)

100 Word Challenge

Today in wananga we did another 100 Word Challenge. Here is the picture and my story :)

One day after school I was walking through the forest to clear my mind after a stressful day.

It was peaceful until I heard a strange noise behind me.

So I turned around and saw the strangest thing ever a pug in a blanket!

Without thinking I ran over and picked it up and started crying for some reason just don’t ask.

I didn’t see an owner anywhere so I took him home which was a really stupid idea.

The next day I woke up to someone knocking on the the door so I opened it and saw a stranger...

Badge Of Honour

Today in Wananga we are working on another part on the Pink Shirt Day slides. For today's task we had to read a story called Badge Of Honour which was about kids at school who were picked to be leaders but one of the kids got involved with gangs and fighting so it was a big drama. Then we had to choose out of two options. We could either finish the story or explain a time when I have been an up stander.

So the time when I was an up stander was when me and my friends were walking through the lane ways in term one and we came across a guy getting thrown at the wall and being punched in the face. So after seeing that we all went and found a teacher so they could sort it out.

The Tea On Pink Shirt Day

This week we are learning about Pink Shirt Day. We are working on it because this Friday is actually the day where everyone wears pink to school to support the charity. Here is the basic information that you should know about Pink Shirt Day. Here is my work :)

Market Day Reflection

Yesterday we had a market day for our business and enterprise. My group made hand cream from Shea butter, Honey, Coconut Oil and Vanilla Essence. They turned out really good and they smelt amazing. The people in my group were Shelby, Felicity, Lacie & Myself. We made 12 small hand creams which we sold for $3 and 6 big hand creams for $4. We also had a deal for the small hand creams where you could buy 2 for $5. My favourite part of the day was going around and looking at all the different things people were selling. My favourite was probably my brothers group who made vanilla milkshakes. They were simple but really good. Overall it was a great day :)

Inclusiveness

For the past few weeks we have been learning about and working on inclusiveness. We worked on it in the same way we did with our growth mindset work. I really liked working on this topic because it is a issue we need to solve so the world isn't so torn apart. Here is my work :)

Writing Challenge

Today in Wananga we did another writing challenge but instead of it being a 100 Word Challenge we wrote a script about a video that was called Geri's Game. Here is my writing and the video. :)

( Remember the writing is BASED off the video )

I walked outside and breathed in the fresh autumn air.

Then I walked at my own pace to the park which had the most lovely green grass in the world.

When I arrived I sat down at the rusty green tables and plonked down my equipment.

My old mate Terri is my chess opponent today but he wasn’t there yet so

I had all the time in the world! So I slowly placed down the board and set it all up.

Geri - You arrived at last you old chump !

Teri -  Oh shh, Let's play !

( 5 MINUTES LATER )

Geri - Seriously ? How long does it take to put your glasses on ?

Teri - I’m going as quick as I can ! I popped my back yesterday and now I feel like a camel.

Geri - Stop using excuses just hurry up.

Teri - Ok, I did it !

Geri - Finally, now I’ll just do this, this and this and BAM !

Teri - What how did you do that ?

Geri - WIth great difficulty but it’s your turn hehe.

Teri -  Uhh ok.. Ooh I have it. POW!

Geri - Umm I think that was beginners luck..

Teri - I think not.

Geri - Ughhh

Teri - Your turn :)

Geri - Ok … Boom, Boom, Boom and Boom.

Teri -  What ? How ?

Geri - With great skill.

Teri - :(

Geri - Hand them over :)

Teri - Ugh fine !

( PASSES DENTURES )

100 Word Challenge

Today in Wananga we did another 100 word challenge. This time it was about aliens. We could choose from a piece of music or a image. I chose the image. Enjoy :)

I was walking through the forest because I heard a loud crash and then some sort of screaming. When I got there I stood with my mouth wide open probably catching some bugs in there. There was a huge UFO just sitting there with steam coming out of the back. There were footprints leading to a cliff where everyone jumps off into the lake in summer. Standing there was a tiny alien looking out to the glistening water. I didn’t want to approach it at first but something was pushing me to talk to it. So I walked forward and ...

Kahui Art

Today in wananga we started making kahui art. The whole school is doing a 'house' competition where you submit artwork that represents mana horomaka and the school. Here is the photo of my artwork. Mana horomaka to me is people in the community coming together making this place what it is. The place doesn't make it, the people do. I am a proud student because it is a great school to be at with the kids and the staff.

200 Word Challenge

Today in wananga instead of doing a 100 Word Challenge we did a 200 Word Challenge. Also we did a piece of music from the movie Forest Gump. Here is my writing and the music. Enjoy.

I was dancing through the studio, leaping and twirling. I love ballet, I have since I could walk. Today I was practising in my private studio that I paid for because I worked at a top end restaurant. The song was called The Flying Feather which my grandmother had written for me. I taught myself the dance, it was quite hard but I knew I could do it. But it was difficult for me because my grandmother had just passed and I missed her so much but I knew I had to keep going. I danced and danced but I just couldn’t get it right so I went for a walk to the graveyard to talk to her. I put flowers in the pot and said “ I love you grandma “ Then I walked back to the studio. I decided that this one was going to be the one where I didn’t muck up and I think going to the graveyard worked because I didn’t muck up and I stayed strong. Which was the best thing I could do.

Slam Dunk Paragraph ~ The Middle Ages

Here is my paragraph about life in the middle ages. Enjoy.

What was life like in the middle ages? Well interestingly it was different for the rich and poor. Rich people like the King and Queen lived in castles, ate lots of food and got to shower everyday. On the other hand poor people lived on farms ate at least twice a week and hardy showered. This was important because if we didn't have these differences then we would now and we would probably be at world war 16 by now. Yes, they all had their differences but people are just people and they should be treated the same.

!00 Word Challenge

Today in wananga we are doing another 100 word challenge. Enjoy.

I love winter, especially when it snows. But this winter was weird, something wasn’t right. In the news there were stories about ‘magical’ happenings with snowmen . I never saw anything until Christmas eve. I was outside playing in the snow when I heard a strange noise. It was like talking but it was muffled and really, really loud. So I walked towards the noise and then I saw the strangest thing. Snowmen having a tea party ! I wasn’t scared until they got up and started walking towards me so I sprinted towards the front door but something grabbed my foot..

Cooking - Home Economics

Today in cooking we made healthy food called pita pockets they were really good, in them there were lettuce/spinach, carrots, cheese, ham, and also tomato, and another thing onion. But you didn't have to put onion in them.

Vegetables-and-Dip Pita Pocket Recipe - NYT Cooking
here is a similar picture to what we had done in class today for cooking... they tasted real good and next time we would have to bring our phones so we could take some photos. Everyone worked in groups of 4. In my group I had Roxy , TJ and Emily
Also after we had created/ put what we wanted in our pita pocket the teacher wrote down in scores from 1-3 of how good they were, the score i had got was a 2 and a half cause it was really good the other people in my group got a 1 and a 2 and a half, She basically rates them of how we had cut them and after we had filled them up.

Leadership

Today for wananga we are working on the island task. We have to write about someone and explain how I think they would be a leader on the island. I chose my best friend Shelby. Here is my writing.

I chose Shelby as my example because she is a strong person and a good leader. I think Shelby would control every ones arguments and then talk to them one on one to sort out any issues to prevent anymore troubles. Then I think she would set everyone a small group and then that group a task that would help the survivors. After that she would look at what everyone had collected or built and then congratulate them on what they had accomplished. That is what I think Shelby would do.

100 Word Challenge

Yesterday we started our second 100 word challenge. I really like the photo for this one because it is a zebra on a type rope above the city. Here is the photo and my work :)

Everyone has a time in their life when you are in a place you are not supposed to be. Take me for example, I'm a Zebra and I'm on a type rope over the city of New York. I guess you could try and picture that but it might be quite hard. I’m not sure how I’m going to get down but you could probably actually never mind you can call this a catastrophe! Or for those people who like using easy words, a very bad situation Well I should probably get going now but have a great da- Oops.

100 Word Challenge

Today in wananga we did a 100 word challenge. The photo was a big bear splashing in the lake with a seagull photo bombing. Here is my work with a photo so you get the idea.

Story:

It was a normal day for me when I went to sleep but when I woke up everything was different.  I rolled onto the floor and very slowly I walked into the bathroom but when I saw my reflection in the mirror I screamed because I was a huge and scary bear! Then before I knew it the floor was opening up beneath me and I struggled to get my footing so I fell through into a big lake and made a huge splash. Now I live my life as a brown bear in the forest catching fish for fun.

Music Blog 2

Today i'm am talking about the first thing we did for music, before the last music post. We first did a music study where we got to pick from a instrument or singing to research and I chose to do singing with my friend Kalea. We did have a video but I haven't found it yet. Here are some questions I had to answer.

Why did you choose singing?
I chose singing because it is a passion of mine and I wanted to learn more about it

What song did you choose to learn and why?
We chose before you go by Lewis Capaldi because it is a really nice song and we can sing it well.

What was challenging and how did you overcome those challenges?
Learning the song was the hardest part but we overcome it by sticking to it and not giving up.

Where you happy with your end result?
We were happy because it sounded really good and our hard work payed off.

What would you change if you could do it again?
I would probably change the song to something more challenging for me.

What have you enjoyed about about music this semester?
I enjoyed being able to be with my best friends and being able to do something fun.

Dilution Experiment

On Monday this week, we did another science experiment. We did a dilution experiment where we had to use water and chemicals to make a satisfying scene. Here is my thoughts from my brain.

Aim:
To make the chemical dilute by using water.

Method:
1. Get 6 test tubes and fill the first one with 10mls of water and the rest with 5mls
2. Put 5mls of Potassium Permanganate in the first test tube
3. Take 5mls from the first tube with the chemicals and put it in the second tube
4. Continue the pattern until you have reached the last test tube which should have 10mls in it by the end.

Equipment:
5mls of Potassium Permanganate
6 Large test tubes
Tweezers
A Pipette
Test tube rack
Beaker

Results:
The first tube was really dark because of the chemical and the rest got lighter and lighter.

Picture:

Discussion:
I think that this result happened because there was not as much chemicals left in the previous ones by the time they got to the end which makes the first one dark and the last one light.

The Present

Today for wananga we had to watch another video. Here is the video if you want to watch it Link. It was a very cool video and here are some questions I had to answer. :)

How would you describe the boy at the start of the video?
I would describe him as a  grumpy, depressed boy who was addicted to video games. Who also didn't want to be disturbed.

What did he think of his present? How do you know? Why did he feel that way?
He thought that his present was an insult. I know this because of the look on his face .He felt that way because the dogs limbs weren't all there like himself.

What lesson did the boy learn by the end of the video?
He learnt that he can't judge a book by its cover, and that even though something might be wrong everyone and everything is still the same.

Why is it important to be grateful for what we have?
Things are made the way they are and we can't judge them for that, everyone is special in their own way.

Health Blog

Today I had health and we have to do a blog post. Last week we started health and we are working on relationships. We we given the task to write down what is a healthy relationship and what is a unhealthy relationship. Then we were asked some questions and I will write them down below.

1) Why or how do relationships become unhealthy?

2) Debate this point - Are online relationships as important as real life relationships?

Yes:                                                                               No:
You are still technically in a relationship                 You can actually be together
You can still connect                                                   It is better for you as a person
You still have someway of contact                            You can trust them more in person

I believe that they are not as important as real life relationships because:
1.They can ghost you  ( not responding )
2. They can catfish you   ( Be a different person from who they say they are )
3. They might be fake to you
4. You can't really trust them
5. You don't really know them

In my opinion, I don't believe that anyone should have a online relationship unless they know what they are doing. For example it is good if you know who you are dealing with and if they are being truthful.

Chemicals & Chaos - Rats

Rats & Mice cause so much chaos! Here is my findings on them.

Mouse Plague
Questions:                          Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3RLmErp43k

1. Where did this happen?
         Western Australia

2. How did this happen?
The rain created lots of crops so the mice came

3. How much offspring can 2 mice parents make?
                               2,000

4. How much wheat did the mice eat?
                   500,000 Tons

5. How did they get rid of the mice and how many dead mice were there?
                    They made a poison                                100,000,000 M
                               (10 80)

Rat Temple
Questions:                            Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OOs

1. Where is this happening?
    Northern India - Rat temple

2. Why is this happening?
The people think of them as a gift from a goddess

3. What special treatment to the rats get?
They get to rome free through the whole temple, they taste test and eat before the people do, the number one and number two on people, they are worshipped, they are NOT killed. They also believe that rats in the kitchen is good luck and if you treat them badly or scare them you will anger the gods.

Filtration Experiment

Today in Hurumanu 3 we are going to do a filtration experiment. We are going to use tiny little particles and try to separate them from solids. Enjoy! 😊

Aim: To separate a solution from a precipitate (precipitate is the name for a solid that forms in a  liquid during a chemical reaction).

Hypothesis: I think that nothing will happen and that it will stay the same. ( But it didn't)

Equipment:
Sodium carbonate
Copper sulfate
Conical flask
Stirring rod
200mL Beaker
Funnel
Filter paper

Method:
1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.
2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.
3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel
4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.
5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.

6. Observe what happened.

Observations:
What happened was that when we put the blue liquid in the funnel with the filter paper filtered through clear. I think it happened because there might be something in both the chemicals that reacts together.

Fast Finish Samoan Task

Today was the last day for working on the tasks for Samoan Language Week. For the fast finish task we could choose to make a poster with different sayings in Samoan or write a paragraph about Samoa. I chose to make a poster, I used Canva.

Samoan Stories

Hello again, today for the next part of the Samoan task we had to read a story. There were two story's to choose from but I chose the second one. Here is a Link if you want to read it or you can read the short paragraph I wrote about it down below.😊😁

The story I read was about tattoos in Samoa. It was called How Tatau Came To Samoa . The story focused on twins, conjoined twins. The went for a short holiday away from their home to explore different cultures. When they were there they met a lady who sang a song to them in Samoan but the translation was " Women are to be tattooed, Men are not to be tattooed" They remembered that so that when they went back to their village they could tell it to their people but on their way back they saw a clam with a shiny pearl in the ocean so they went to explore but when they came back up their memory was all fuzzy. So, when they got back to their village they told the wrong song to the people. They said " Men are to be tattooed, Women are not to be tattooed" But in the coming years after that women were introduced to tattoos and that was the end of that.

Samoan Umu

Today for Wananga we watched a video about how to make a Samoan Umu. Here is the Link for if you want to watch the video. Here are some questions I had to answer:

What is an Umu? What does it need, what is it for?
A Umu is like a Hangi. It needs lots of traditional food for that culture and leaves to help it burn. You can have a Umu to celebrate birthdays, weddings or funerals.

How are traditional Samoan skills taught?
Samoan skills are usually self taught.

Is there something you have experienced similar to an Umu? What was it? Where did you experience it?
I have never been to something like that but my bother did when he was at his primary school they had a Hangi, he didn't really like it though.

What types of things are cooked in an Umu?
In the video they cooked coconut, bananas, fish and coconut cream wrapped in different types of leaves.

My Own Comic

For the past week we have been working on a really fun task. We had to make our own comics and choose our own super power. I chose to have a hammer like Thor but instead of lighting I had vines. I also had vines coming out of my knuckles kind of like Wolverine. My side kick had the same except she had water. I created a villain and she was the " Devils Child" She had the power mind control and she tried to take over the world but my characters stopped her. Here is a photo of my work :)

Sadako And The Thousand Paper Cranes

Today for wananga we watched a video about a girl named Sadako. Here is the Link for the video if you want to watch it to understand. I had to answer these questions:

Who is the girl in the video?
The girl in the video is Sadako.

Where is she?
She is in heaven, a place you go when you die.

Why do you think she is there?
Because she must have died.

How did she get there?
She might have been taken by a crane or something.

How does she feel?
She is upset at the start because she is away from her family but at he end she is happy because she got to give something to them from above.

What is a paper crane and what does it represent?
A paper crane is a paper version of the real bird called the crane. I think the paper cranes represent a peaceful bird that helps people pass on.

Then I had to read a short story about the story but the true version. Here is that Link. Then I had to answer more questions:

Add four facts to your work that you learned about the real Sadako:

1. Sadako died of leukaemia at the age of 12.

2. She folded 1,300 paper cranes in the hope that she would survive and help other people survive.

3. There is a memorial with her standing tall holding a paper crane.

4. She has a brother named Masahiro.

What CARR value do you think Sadako showed while making her paper cranes?
I think Sadako showed more than one value when she was making the paper cranes. She showed commitment by sticking to her task and resilience by not just wishing to live but to help others.

If you could choose a symbol of hope for the world during 2020 what would it be and why?
I would choose someone hugging earth and telling it, it will be alright. I chose that because earth is going through a lot right now and we need to support it.

Baking At Home

Today I was set a task by my teacher. We had to make a cake that people baked in the war. It was a very simple cake to make because they didn't have very many ingredients at that time. Here is a series of photos of me making the cake. Enjoy 😁
( You may have to turn your head to see properly.)

Health Work

Today I did my second slide of health, it was about Resiliency. This is just the first part of the work, I will post the other half when it is finished. Here is a photo.
