Dilution Experiment

On Monday this week, we did another science experiment. We did a dilution experiment where we had to use water and chemicals to make a satisfying scene. Here is my thoughts from my brain.

Aim:
To make the chemical dilute by using water.

Method:
1. Get 6 test tubes and fill the first one with 10mls of water and the rest with 5mls
2. Put 5mls of Potassium Permanganate in the first test tube
3. Take 5mls from the first tube with the chemicals and put it in the second tube
4. Continue the pattern until you have reached the last test tube which should have 10mls in it by the end.

Equipment:
5mls of Potassium Permanganate
6 Large test tubes
Tweezers
A Pipette
Test tube rack
Beaker

Results:
The first tube was really dark because of the chemical and the rest got lighter and lighter.

Discussion:
I think that this result happened because there was not as much chemicals left in the previous ones by the time they got to the end which makes the first one dark and the last one light.

  1. This is an interesting experiment Hayley, I see what you mean about the dark to lighter colours. I have a question, what is Potassium Permanganate used for?

  3. Well done Hayley. I really like how you shared pictures and explained what was happening. By the last tube, what was causing it to be lighter in colour?
