Animal Math

In maths we have been making animals out of shapes. This Is called Tangram. We had to make a tangram Reindeer. I made a black circle for the eye and a red circle for the nose. I named him Rudolph.

Christmas around the world

WALT:  celebrate Christmas in different country's.

We learnt how to celebrate Christmas in France,Italy,the Netherlands,Sweden,mexico,Poland. They are all similar and all different at the same time.

We also learnt about how Santa and the reindeer get different foods from different country's'.

This week we had to write about a monster and a kitten. we had to include an unexpected twist. we had to do it in five days and make sure we got it done. Here is my work.

ALARM CALL

“YOWW” said the monster as the kitten scratched the Monster in the face.

The Green, Yucky  monster was hungry, he wanted some food. He crept along and found a Sweet, tasty, cute kitten Asleep. “This Kitten Looks like mayonaise” Said the monster.

Meanwhile, The kitten was dreaming... or was she? Just Joking. She was awake, and listening to the monster and let out a fake snore. NgaaaaaaMeow NgaaaaaaMeow.

The monster had a problem. The house was made of wood so, there were old floorboards that creeked! He could not get to the kitten. “Dam It, Dam It Dam It” Said the monster “i’m Just too hungry to walk away”

The kitten had been listening and had a plan. She was going to give him payback. “He He He” Said the kitten. 3… 2… 1… Leap! “YOWW” said the monster as the kitten scratched the Monster in the face. “That teaches you for calling me mayonaise” Said the kitten. “I’m Sorry” Said the monster “ I’m just really hungry. “Well I can get you a jar of mayonnaise from the fridge” Said the kitten “ok” Said the monster and ate it all up.

So the kitten may have scratched the monster in the face but they still  became best friends and lived happily ever after.

Mantra

We have been doing Mantra for about 2 weeks now. Mantra is a thing where the whole of Puni-o-toka is collaborating together as teams. We have been doing success and The Ultimate Team Mate. We have been brain storming ideas as a group and doing some fun activities together. The whole group did a google drawing with what we think success means to us. I have been doing a success google drawing to but instead of just putting writing down I put pictures to.

Activity 1:

For activity 1 we went to Taupo and went for a walk along side the lake in the forest. When I look at the lake there was lots of rubbish floating about. We have to write a list of three things of how to keep the lake rubbish free.

• We stop having picnic's in the forest that involve rubbish
• Do a daily rubbish check every day
• Put Rubbish bins around the lake

Activity 1:

For activity 1 we had to go to the mountain range of the Southern Alps. Then I find this really cool tree and then when I turned around my group was gone! so then I had to write a 8-10 sentence story about me being alone in a strange forest.

Alone In The Forest. 

Oh no! my group is gone what shall I do? should I stay where I am or go and find the group. I stood there for 10 minutes trying to make a decision and then I went to find the group. "Curious Kiwi " I called "Where are you?" He heard my call. Then I realized that I was in quicksand and I was sinking! "Help, Help" I shouted "I need some help! The group came rushing towards me and pulled me out. Then we all hoped back in the van and shared a sigh of relief.

for activity 2 we had to make a DLO about one Famous New Zealander and write about them. We had to put the name of the famous person, Where they were born, Why they are famous and two other interesting facts about them. I chose Lorde.

Bonus Activity: For our bonus activity we had to put on our blog if we would like to ride on the Otago Trail one day and if it would be fun and Why or Why not. The Otago Trail is a trail in Otago. Otago Is a little south from Dunedin.

I would like to go on the Otago Trail one day because it would be fun and it would be nice to get outside for a day.

Activity 1: For activity 1 we had to go to this Farewell Spit Link and learn more about all their beached Whales.Then we had to describe what the people did to try and save the Whales.

This morning when I got out of bed I went to open the curtains and when I looked out the window.... what a sight! There were 16 beached Whales!. I couldn't just stand there I had to go do something! So I went and put my gumboots on and a tracksuit? Then I went outside. I had to go get loads and loads of buckets of water to keep the Whales hi-dratted. lots of other people called the Police to keep track of what happened and the Firefighters to get more water.

Calendar Art 2017

We have finished our calendar art for the year. We had to do it this term because if we did it next term then we would be to busy with shifting the stuff to the new school. We had to chose from Happy Hearts, Line Town or Mauri Koru. I chose Mauri Koru.

Activity 1:

For activity 1 we had to visit the Adopt A Critter Page and "Adopt An Animal" I chose to adopt a Kea.

What type of animal are they?

This a Bird called a Kea.

What do they eat?

They eat a of things and bugs and leaves are only some of them.

Where do they normally live?

                                      Keas live in the country in the South Island.

Activity 2:

For Activity 2 we had to go to the Predator Free 2050 Website and read more about there work and what they do, We were focusing on the possums. Then we had to think if we would like to make New Zealand predator free or not, then put three reasons why we think if they should stay or go. 

I chose for them to go.

Reason 1: A lot of people trap them anyway so they are almost all gone.

Reason 2: People say that they put illnesses in the air and make people sick.

Reason 3: They eat all our native plants and all our native species.

Bonus Activity:

For our bonus activity we had to go to the Wild Eyes site and complete a Moa discovery mission. We had to draw something about a Moa then post it to our blog and the wild eyes site.

Today we started a learning journey. A learning Journey is where you complete lots of tasks to get points. These points will be added up at the end of the term and the top three people who get the most points get a reward, We are doing this in our literacy groups so there will be nine winners.

Logo Degsin

We have been working on logos. We had to design our own logos that represent us. It took us 5 sessions for us to complete our logo. Here is my Logo.

This years theme for Digi Awards is Manaakitanga. Manaakitanga is all about Generosity, Hospitality , kindness and helping. Some girls made a shop about Making Someones Day. You would get a Ice block if you did a kind deed and to show proof you would put it on your blog.I chose ASKING IF SOMEONE IS OK. I got a Lime Flavored Ice block.

WALT: We are learning about healthy eating.

For Literacy we are learning about healthy eating. So we made coconut and raisin bliss balls. We had the choice to write some instructions or a poem. I wrote a Poem.

I hear the crunchy food processor,

Dicing and slicing up the ingredients.

The dirty compost like bliss balls were speckled,

glistening in the sunlight.

It smelled bitter and sweet at the same time.

The chocolatey bread like smell,

flew through the classrooms.

The crumbly coconut made the balls slimy and messy.

It tasted bitter and sweet,

Tingly and extreme,

And powerful like the bitter cocoa.

The taste melted away after a while,

And it didn’t come back.

Fred The Brave

WALT: Use predicting for our writing.

For writing this week we had to use this a picture of a man on the top of a really high building. We had to name him and I called him Fred. We had to plan what he did before, after and during. Then we could put language features in to make it interesting.

Fred the brave was bored, so he got up and walked down the street. He felt like climbing a building so…  he climbed some and he felt like the super spiderman! While he was climbing he saw a unquestionably high building. Do you know what he did? He started to climb it!!! Before he left home he had packed a few beers. So when he got to the top of that absolutely high building he stopped and had some. Then he … slipped and died!!!

The next day he had a funeral with all his family. They cried then they died! They missed Fred very much they wanted him back. So i guess he wasn't fred the brdjerw AHHH there is something coming out of the coffin!! They started to run away but, Fred's mother saw Fred walking towards her! HE WAS ALIVE it was amazing and fred said “ i am never going up THAT high ever again!”

Bob the hairy Rat woke up this morning and he felt a little hungry. So he got up and headed for the streets. He looked through the houses but he couldn't find anything. Then he went and looked in the barn and he found something that looked so magic and yummy…. Red Currants! He scurried up to them and started scoffing his face! Then he saw a face lurking in the shadows so he ran home. He couldn't run fast because he ate too much!

By the time he got home it was noon and was he full he tried to get into his home but he was too big! So he had to go work-out at the gym. When he got home he was so tired he went straight to bed and he said ¨I shouldn't have eaten all those currents!¨

When he woke up he was still quite chubby. Then suddenly he felt a feeling, a feeling he has never felt before. He was thinking and thinking and trying to figure out what this feeling was. Then finally he figured it out he was a … GREEDY RAT!

Wind

WALT: Show our learning on a weather feature.
We are learning about a set weather feature my weather feature is wind. We had to research, read and write about the weather feature.We wrote two information reports and had to make a D.L.O. My D.L.O is based on wind that can be hot or cold and I have also got some definitions.

Wow! The wind is very crisp today I wonder why? Oh Maybe I could go and learn some more about this spectacular thing!

The beautiful wind is basically air that moves around and is either warm or cold.Wind is not the main weather but it is one of them because, there is Sun then Rain then Wind.

New Zealand is in the road of the Roaring Forties.The Roaring Forties is the name given to the strong westerly winds in the southern hemisphere.

The crisp  wind can either be warm or cold so let's talk more about that.

Wind is normally cold but sometimes it can be quite warm.The warm air rises from the surface of the ground but ,the cold air just floats around all the time. Sometimes the wind will blow all day but other times the wind will blow in the morning at stop at night or it’s the other way rounds otherwise it won’t blow at all!

Overall, I think that wind does a lot even though we don’t notice it.

This week for cyber smart we have to play this game called interland. interland is a game where you have to make the bullies stop bulling harmless creatures. This is like cyber bulling.

Brrr it’s so cold !!Why isn't the sun shining today?

Weather is a minute by  minute changing thing . It is the current Atmosphere that we experience day to day.

Right now it is very cold. The sun is shining but the wind is crisp which  is making it cold. Mostly every day the wind makes it cold so ,if there was no wind today it would be nice and warm.

Let's talk about the sun. As we all know the sun is very hot and very bright.The sun is very hot because when is was first created it was just a mixture of gases. But because over time the gases have mixed together they have started boiling

Floods are caused by lots and lots of rain. Floods can get really bad.They can make people evacuate their homes.Then when they return their left with soggy floors and muddy walls. Ew gross.

Rain is just water falling from the sky. Rain is the condensed moisture of the atmosphere falling visibly in separate drops. Rain is a considered component of the water cycle and is responsible for disposing most of the freshwater on Earth.There is nothing better than sipping hot chocolate on a cold rainy day!

There is nothing better than being inside nice and warm when there is a storm coming towards you. Don’t you just love watching storms while you're nice and cosy?

Antarctica's Climate and Weather Information Report

Did you know Antarctica is the coldest continent on earth! Well if you did you must be very smart because I didn’t when I started. So, the weather is very cold as you will know but, it is actually is a desert. It is a desert because, it doesn't get any rain, just snow. Antarctica can be very strange at times but otherwise it is very still.

Antarctica Animals -South Polar. Antarctic animals - The most abundant and best known animals from the southern continent. Penguins, whales seals, albatrosses, other seabirds and a range of invertebrates you may have not heard of such as krill which form the basis of the Antarctic food web.

Overall, Antarctica is a great place to be the only thing is it is COLD!!!
