I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.
Today in Hurumanu 3 we are going to do a filtration experiment. We are going to use tiny little particles and try to separate them from solids. Enjoy! 😊
Aim: To separate a solution from a precipitate (precipitate is the name for a solid that forms in a liquid during a chemical reaction).
Hypothesis: I think that nothing will happen and that it will stay the same. ( But it didn't)
Equipment:
Sodium carbonate
Copper sulfate
Conical flask
Stirring rod
200mL Beaker
Funnel
Filter paper
Method:
1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.
2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.
3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel
4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.
5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.
6. Observe what happened.
Observations:
What happened was that when we put the blue liquid in the funnel with the filter paper filtered through clear. I think it happened because there might be something in both the chemicals that reacts together.
This week on Thursday, we have student led conferences. We got given a slide template
( which is the one above) and we had to fill in every small bit of information to show our parents. I picked what I think was my best work so far. Enjoy!
This term for hurumanu we have been doing art. Today was our last session because we only have a half day on Thursday. We have been working on our learning stories for art and we were doing a stop motion that shows manaakitanga. My group did a stop motion about a group of girls at a school and one of the girls is very generous. She gives so much but then she forgets about herself. My group didn't finish the video so there is nothing to show.
For this year we were doing cybersmart for every term. We were asked to do a reflection about what we had learnt and what we think what could have been better.
Term 1 what did we do?
Term 1 we were learning about smart learning. Smart learning is about understanding and demonstrating how to be safe online.
Term 2 what did we do?
Term 2 we were learning about having a smart footprint. A smart footprint is knowing what you post and look at online and making sure you are safe.
Term 3 what did we do?
Term 3 we were learning about smart relationships. A smart relationship is talking to someone online and making sure they are safe to talk to and that they are not scammers.
Term 4 what did we do?
Term 4 we were learning about being a smart user. A smart user is knowing what being responsible online is and what they need to do to be responsible.
My favourite thing in cybersmart this year was getting to know how to be safe online as a teen.
Something I didn't enjoy was being treated like we didn't know what being safe online was.
Something my cybersmart teacher did well was making the activities fun.
Something my cybersmart teacher could to better was give us breaks so we could give our brains a rest.
What is google search?
Google search is where you want to find out something online so you go to the google search bar and type in your question. For example...
Austin Post is Post Malone.
If you search Post Malone it would still come up with Austin Post same if you searched Post Malone.
Here is the whole search that google came up with...
What is psychology? The scientific study of humans to find out how their mind and body.
What jobs can you get with Psychology?
Market Researcher - This is a person who analyses data and makes
sure all the markets and salesmen are doing their job properly.
Laboratory assistant- This is a person who maintains their "boss's" equipment and helps out with their experiments.

Winner is…
7!
Discussion:
I learned that most people like the numbers 7 and 5.
I think that if I did it with other people I would get different results.
What could I do better?
I could ask more people and see what answers I get.
Disclaimer: I only used 10 people. You can use as many people as you want.

Melanie Klein is a Austrian-British Psychologist. She was born in 1885 and died in 1952.
When she was a little child she was very interested in Science and psychology, and wanted to learn more. In 1919 she started to Analyse children. The first 3 children she Analysed were her 2 sons and her daughter which names were Melitta, Erich and Hans. When Abraham Lincoln found out that Melanie Klein was Analysing children he said that he would support her and let her continue the Analysing. Even though she had, had a lot of successes in her life she had also had many tragic events. She had lost her sister when she was very young and her brother had also passed and she put the blame on herself for that. Then she got married and had children, then divorced and her son was killed in a climbing accident that may have been suicidal. Although she had had some highs and some lows she is still a great person to be remembered. The name Melanie Klein will still be famous.
