Health Blog

Today I had health and we have to do a blog post. Last week we started health and we are working on relationships. We we given the task to write down what is a healthy relationship and what is a unhealthy relationship. Then we were asked some questions and I will write them down below.

1) Why or how do relationships become unhealthy?

2) Debate this point - Are online relationships as important as real life relationships?

Yes:                                                                               No:
You are still technically in a relationship                 You can actually be together
You can still connect                                                   It is better for you as a person
You still have someway of contact                            You can trust them more in person

I believe that they are not as important as real life relationships because:
1.They can ghost you  ( not responding )
2. They can catfish you   ( Be a different person from who they say they are )
3. They might be fake to you
4. You can't really trust them
5. You don't really know them

In my opinion, I don't believe that anyone should have a online relationship unless they know what they are doing. For example it is good if you know who you are dealing with and if they are being truthful.

Chemicals & Chaos - Rats

Rats & Mice cause so much chaos! Here is my findings on them.

Mouse Plague
Questions:                          Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3RLmErp43k

1. Where did this happen?
         Western Australia

2. How did this happen?
The rain created lots of crops so the mice came

3. How much offspring can 2 mice parents make?
                               2,000

4. How much wheat did the mice eat?
                   500,000 Tons

5. How did they get rid of the mice and how many dead mice were there?
                    They made a poison                                100,000,000 M
                               (10 80)

Rat Temple
Questions:                            Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OOs

1. Where is this happening?
    Northern India - Rat temple

2. Why is this happening?
The people think of them as a gift from a goddess

3. What special treatment to the rats get?
They get to rome free through the whole temple, they taste test and eat before the people do, the number one and number two on people, they are worshipped, they are NOT killed. They also believe that rats in the kitchen is good luck and if you treat them badly or scare them you will anger the gods.

Filtration Experiment

Today in Hurumanu 3 we are going to do a filtration experiment. We are going to use tiny little particles and try to separate them from solids. Enjoy! 😊

Aim: To separate a solution from a precipitate (precipitate is the name for a solid that forms in a  liquid during a chemical reaction).

Hypothesis: I think that nothing will happen and that it will stay the same. ( But it didn't)

Equipment:
Sodium carbonate
Copper sulfate
Conical flask
Stirring rod
200mL Beaker
Funnel
Filter paper

Method:
1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.
2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.
3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel
4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.
5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.

6. Observe what happened.

Observations:
What happened was that when we put the blue liquid in the funnel with the filter paper filtered through clear. I think it happened because there might be something in both the chemicals that reacts together.

Fast Finish Samoan Task

Today was the last day for working on the tasks for Samoan Language Week. For the fast finish task we could choose to make a poster with different sayings in Samoan or write a paragraph about Samoa. I chose to make a poster, I used Canva.

Samoan Stories

Hello again, today for the next part of the Samoan task we had to read a story. There were two story's to choose from but I chose the second one. Here is a Link if you want to read it or you can read the short paragraph I wrote about it down below.😊😁

The story I read was about tattoos in Samoa. It was called How Tatau Came To Samoa . The story focused on twins, conjoined twins. The went for a short holiday away from their home to explore different cultures. When they were there they met a lady who sang a song to them in Samoan but the translation was " Women are to be tattooed, Men are not to be tattooed" They remembered that so that when they went back to their village they could tell it to their people but on their way back they saw a clam with a shiny pearl in the ocean so they went to explore but when they came back up their memory was all fuzzy. So, when they got back to their village they told the wrong song to the people. They said " Men are to be tattooed, Women are not to be tattooed" But in the coming years after that women were introduced to tattoos and that was the end of that.

Samoan Umu

Today for Wananga we watched a video about how to make a Samoan Umu. Here is the Link for if you want to watch the video. Here are some questions I had to answer:

What is an Umu? What does it need, what is it for?
A Umu is like a Hangi. It needs lots of traditional food for that culture and leaves to help it burn. You can have a Umu to celebrate birthdays, weddings or funerals.

How are traditional Samoan skills taught?
Samoan skills are usually self taught.

Is there something you have experienced similar to an Umu? What was it? Where did you experience it?
I have never been to something like that but my bother did when he was at his primary school they had a Hangi, he didn't really like it though.

What types of things are cooked in an Umu?
In the video they cooked coconut, bananas, fish and coconut cream wrapped in different types of leaves.

My Own Comic

For the past week we have been working on a really fun task. We had to make our own comics and choose our own super power. I chose to have a hammer like Thor but instead of lighting I had vines. I also had vines coming out of my knuckles kind of like Wolverine. My side kick had the same except she had water. I created a villain and she was the " Devils Child" She had the power mind control and she tried to take over the world but my characters stopped her. Here is a photo of my work :)

Sadako And The Thousand Paper Cranes

Today for wananga we watched a video about a girl named Sadako. Here is the Link for the video if you want to watch it to understand. I had to answer these questions:

Who is the girl in the video?
The girl in the video is Sadako.

Where is she?
She is in heaven, a place you go when you die.

Why do you think she is there?
Because she must have died.

How did she get there?
She might have been taken by a crane or something.

How does she feel?
She is upset at the start because she is away from her family but at he end she is happy because she got to give something to them from above.

What is a paper crane and what does it represent?
A paper crane is a paper version of the real bird called the crane. I think the paper cranes represent a peaceful bird that helps people pass on.

Then I had to read a short story about the story but the true version. Here is that Link. Then I had to answer more questions:

Add four facts to your work that you learned about the real Sadako:

1. Sadako died of leukaemia at the age of 12.

2. She folded 1,300 paper cranes in the hope that she would survive and help other people survive.

3. There is a memorial with her standing tall holding a paper crane.

4. She has a brother named Masahiro.

What CARR value do you think Sadako showed while making her paper cranes?
I think Sadako showed more than one value when she was making the paper cranes. She showed commitment by sticking to her task and resilience by not just wishing to live but to help others.

If you could choose a symbol of hope for the world during 2020 what would it be and why?
I would choose someone hugging earth and telling it, it will be alright. I chose that because earth is going through a lot right now and we need to support it.

Science - Inside & Out

Today I was working on my science for Inside & Out. We had some work sheets to work on about different biology topics. I chose to do my first one about bones. Here is a song so you can learn a little bit. Link Here is a diagram that I filled out. Stay Safe :)

Baking At Home... Again!

Last week I got a package that was filled with baking boxes! I made my first one today and it was truffles. I coated half of mine in sprinkles and the other half in coconut. Here is some photos!

Baking At Home

Today I was set a task by my teacher. We had to make a cake that people baked in the war. It was a very simple cake to make because they didn't have very many ingredients at that time. Here is a series of photos of me making the cake. Enjoy 😁
( You may have to turn your head to see properly.)

Health Work

Today I did my second slide of health, it was about Resiliency. This is just the first part of the work, I will post the other half when it is finished. Here is a photo.

Art - Zentangles

Yesterday I started working on my art. We had to draw zentangles, here is a link to explain what they are: Link. Here is a picture of my work :)
