Leadership Poster

Today we had to make a poster about a celebrity leader. We had the choice from 11 people. They were Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Steve Jobs, William Shakespeare, Princess Diana, Mother Teresa, Oprah Winfrey, Richie McCaw, Sir Edmund Hillary, Portia Woodman and Sophie Pascoe. I decided to do my research on Princess Diana. Here is my Canva poster.

Workshop 3 - Lighting & Colour

Mood / Atmosphere - How you feel in a certain situation.

1. Scene - Auggies first day at school - When Auggie walks into class everyone stare at him. When he goes to sit down Amos says the seat is saved.

Angles / Shots -  Long shot / Eye level of class, Close ups of Auggie to see his emotional reactions.

Lighting & Colour-
Palette - Colours used in the scene e.g nature palette has colours from nature - brown, green.

Warm / Cold - Warm makes us feel safe and comfortable. Cold makes us feel uncomfortable sterile.

Bright - Vibrant, Jumps out at you
Dull - Faded, muted, blends in
Natural -  Sun or moonlight
Artificial -  Man made light e.g Light bulbs

Lighting and colour for scene 1. - Warm, Makes the class feel safe and welcoming .
                                                         - Bright colours - gives the room energy and light.
                                                         - Natural light coming through the windows.

Effect on the viewer - Happy, chilled, exciting, educational, inspiring.

Director - Wants  to create a happy and safe atmosphere in Mr Browns classroom. Even though it feels this way, Julian and Amos's behaviour is unkind.

SEXXXY Paragraph:

In the scene of August's first day at school, lighting and colour are used to create a safe and welcoming classroom environment. For instance, bright and warm colours are used on the walls and natural light comes through the windows to make the space look like a nice place to learn. This makes the audience feel excited, inspired, and that the space is educational in supportive for learning. This was done to show Mr Brown had created a classroom space that would be welcoming to new students like Auggie. Coinciding with this is the use of body language. The children in the room are sitting up smiling and paying lots of attention; They are learning ready. This reminds the viewer of the theme kindness because the lighting and colour make the room welcoming for all students.

Inside & Out - Workshop 2

The Impact Of Angles, Movement & Shots.

Photo 1 - Fight scene, Jack fighting Julian because he called Auggie a freak.
- Mr Brown pulls Jack off Julian
- Dutch tilt is used, Shows something is not right.
- Makes one person look smaller than the other
- Julian looks weak and vulnerable

Viewer Feels } Shocked - Didn't expect Jacks reaction, Surprised, concerned, uneasy.

Director: (Makes Us Feel) - Surprised, sad / worried for Jack.
Other Techniques - Music - creates atmosphere, minor slow motion - makes more intense.

SEXXXY Paragraph - In the film Wonder, low angle shots were used effectively. This is demonstrated in the scene where Jack attacks Julian because he called Auggie a freak. In this scene a low angle dutch tilt shot is used to make Jack look stronger and Julian weak and vulnerable. This makes the audience feel shocked, surprised and concerned because we didn't expect a violent reaction from Jack who has not been aggressive before this point. The purpose of this was to show the theme of kindness as Jack finally stands up for Auggie. Combined with this is the use of quiet, minor music and slow motion to create an atmosphere and the event feel more intense. This can be contrasted to the nature reserve fight scene where Auggie now chose kindness by standing up for Jack.

Photo 2 - Fight Scene - Nature Reserve - Auggie makes friends, high 5 and no plague, Jack, Amos & others. They beat up & ran away from the 7th graders.

- Wide angle, long shot - Makes us feel like we are a bystander watching an important moment, the emotions are the characters, not ours.
- Audience - Joyful, Proud, Cheerful, Ecstatic, Relived - Auggie finally is included, has friends.

Director - Shows Auggie is finally fitting in, shows theme  importance of friendship or kindness.
Other Techniques -  Lighting - Use of shadow - silhouette outlining the boys, feels like they are all in it together.

Athletics Day

Yesterday was our schools athletics day. It was our first using our buildings as our house, which means there were new colours. My house Tieke - Red, Riroriro - Blue and Mohua - Gold / Yellow. I am year nine this year and my teachers that took me around my three events were Mrs Prebble and Mrs Clark. My three events were Discus, Shot put and 60 metres. My favourite part of the day is when my Gran, Dad and Step-Mum game to cheer me and my brother on. My least favourite was doing the 60 metres because I do not like running. Overall I had a really fun day.

Inside & Out - Workshop 1

Today is the first workshop for the movie wonder. Please give me feedback :)

Kindness - When people are respectful, caring, helpful & include others.

Example 1 - Fight scene at the nature reserve.
- Amos & the boys rescue Auggie & Jack from the bullies. At the end they high five Auggie.
- Shows kindness because up until this point the others hadn't touched him or treated him with respect.
- Theme of kindness is important because through it Auggie makes friends, is more confident and happier.

Example 2 - Cafeteria scene where Summer sits with Auggie.
- Shows theme of kindness because Summer leaves her friends she was sitting with who were bystanders & went to sit with Auggie because he was alone.
-  Summer helps rebuild Auggies trust in friendship. If she hadn't shown kindness by sitting with him , he wouldn't have learnt to make new friends & move on.

Importance Of Family & Friendship } Through these relationships our characters build trust,                                                                                          resilience and self confidence.

Example 1 - Scene where Auggie cuts off his padawan braid.
- Link to importance of family because it shows that when Auggie is feeling sad / alone / depressed that he has a support network to build his resilience.
- Home is Auggies safe & supportive place. He needs this relationship with his parents to help him build confidence to make new friends.

Example 2: When Jack punches Julian for calling Auggie a freak.
- Shows importance of friendship because Jack wasn't willing to let Julian bully Auggie anymore. Auggie is a real friend to Jack, whereas Julian is the kind of friend that puts you down if you don't agree with him.
- Is important because it shows how real friends treat each other, they build trust and can forgive.

Being Right VS Being Popular } Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching or no                                                                                                  one else is doing it.

Example 1 : Julian bullies Auggie
- Julian chooses to do things to be popular rather than doing the right thing. He calls Auggie names, hides notes in his locker & tells Auggie he should kill himself. Julian is the most popular boy in the class so when he chooses to be mean that becomes the thing to do.
- Julian shows importance of being popular over being right because through his actions he is removed from the school & looses his friends. Juxtaposed to this is Jack Will. he decides he would rather be kind to Auggie and as a result keeps all his friends & isn't kicked out.

Inside & Out

Today for Inside & Out we have been learning about the themes of the movie Wonder. We had to choose from four different tasks, I chose to make a theme guide using Canva. Canva is like pictograph but it has more things to offer. Here is my theme guide.

Using Canva

Today I learnt how to use Canva. Canva is a very cool site where you can use different things to make posters, info graphics and more! Here is a link to the site so you can check it out. CANVA

To test it out my teacher Miss Birtch made us make it about our school values which are Commitment, Achievement, Resilience and Respect (CARR). Here is my poster. 😄
