This week for P.E Hurumanu we have been working on the sport that we chose for our groups. As you know my groups name is Celtics and we chose Basketball as our sport. We had to use a document full of questions that we had to answer questions like what two drills will you practice? The first drill we did was defending crossovers. What we had to do was stand in two lines, one line had a ball and the person in front tried to shoot and the first person in the other line would defend, then you would switch lines. The second drill was basically the same but what we had to do was stand in one big line and the first person would stand at a certain point and shoot from there. I think I worked well with my team today by cheering them on while they had their shot. I also helped one specific person in my team by helping them up when they tripped.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Hurumanu Sport
This week for hurumanu we started sport with Miss Simpson. We did fitness testing and the beep test. We did fitness testing because we are doing it again later in this hurumanu and we are going to see if our scores are different. First we did sit ups, I did ten. Then we did a sit and reach test. For that we had to sit with our feet with against a box and then push a bit of wood as far as we can, I got 10.2 centimetres. After that we did hand grip tests, you had to hold a metal grip and squeeze them together, I got one. The last thing we did was the vertical jump. You had to stand sideways up against the wall and then reach your arm up as high as you can then you had to jump as high as you can and record that. When I did it I got 1.9 standing and 2.2 jumping. Today we did the beep test and my score was 5.1 which I think was pretty good. I think I worked pretty well with my team which are called the Celtics. I think I have to improve on my breathing while I'm running because It hurts really bad after. I will work on this buy deep breathing and stretching afterwards. I helped everyone when we were doing the beep test by cheering them on.

Here is the video:
We also made a google drawing which had questions and other facts about the All Blacks. We did this work because we want to support the All Blacks with the world cup. Here is the drawing:

Hurumanu Art
This term for hurumanu we have been doing art. Today was our last session because we only have a half day on Thursday. We have been working on our learning stories for art and we were doing a stop motion that shows manaakitanga. My group did a stop motion about a group of girls at a school and one of the girls is very generous. She gives so much but then she forgets about herself. My group didn't finish the video so there is nothing to show.

Writing Conference
On Friday this week myself and a group of students from school went to the Turanga library in Christchurch. We went to the library because there were some authors coming to speak to groups of students from different schools. Our teachers picked us because we either liked to right or liked reading. There were two authors who came, Eileen Merriman and Mandy Hager. They were each talking about a specific book with other facts in between. Here are some notes I wrote down for each author.
Eileen Merriman : Invisibly Breathing.
Also a doctor, Blood specialist. ( Haematologist )
Took writing courses / Classes.
Rejected by many publishes.
Published her first short story, Pieces Of You.
Her second book was Catch Me When I Fall.
Main Book:
Characters: Felix, Socially weird. Bailey, Struggling with life.
Both characters get bullied and share similar personality's.
She finds young adult books more interesting to write.
Between novels and books she writes short stories.
She said always write what you enjoy reading.
Mandy Hager : Ashes to Ashes, Series of two books.
Her parents both were troubled as kids.
She turns ideas into master pieces.
" Writing is a constant balancing act"
She thinks as a baby you learn how to read people.
Always speak up when you hear something wrong.
First / Main book.
Book set in New Zealand future.
She read out a part of the book that was very traumatising. " Two police came up to my door and instantly he knew what he was going to say. " Your father has been killed in a terrorist attack"But little did he know the government wanted to kill him and his father."
